SPECIAL ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITY
Fundraising Hosted Tour of Arthur Erickson’s Dyde House and Garden, Edmonton
Saturday, 14 October 2023

The Arthur Erickson Foundation and the University of Alberta are pleased to announce a Fundraising Interior Tour of Dyde House at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden in Parkland County, just west of Edmonton, hosted by AEF board members Barry Johns FRAIC and Trevor Boddy FRAIC. This is a rare opportunity to see the interiors and appreciate Erickson’s architectural innovations, plus the sublime parkland axial garden and pond he designed around it, so please register quickly, as it is sure to sell out.

This may be the last chance to tour the Dyde interior for a while, with the bonus of it being led by a former Erickson employee (Johns) and a critic and historian (Boddy). Tickets are strictly limited in number, and include a welcome coffee and a glass of prosecco at the end. A tax receipt will be issued by AEF, with net proceeds to assist AEF and U of A in their conservation and research expenses.

To purchase your ticket, please click the Register button at left. Note that discounted tickets are available to members of the Arthur Erickson Foundation. For information on becoming a member, click here.

Details and logistics:

  • The site is approximately one half hour west of Edmonton, on Highway 60 (click for Google Map link). Meeting point is the University of Alberta Botanic Garden reception centre, where welcome coffee, tea and cookies will be served.
  • The walking route to the Dyde House passes through the famous Aga Khan Gardens and Diwan. While closed for the season and the fountains will be off, they are a magnificent sight any time of the year, and a major design creation in their own right.
  • The walk to the house is approximately a half kilometre through light aspen forest, so please bring sturdy shoes, warm clothes, and rainwear if predicted. Electric golf cart transport will be provided for anyone with mobility issues.
  • The tour will take approximately 90 minutes, including time to wander solo through the gardens and revisit the house or Aga Khan gardens, and will conclude with a glass of bubbly and chat back at the reception centre, perhaps to warm up!
